Validation of the Scale of Violent Conduct in the School in the Ecuadorian context
Abstract
INTRODUCTION. The Scale of Violent Behavior in the School allows measuring behavior in three dimensions of violence: pure, reactive and instrumental. OBJECTIVE. The objective of this research was to review and validate the psychometric properties and factor structure of an Ecuadorian version of the Violent Behavior Scale in the School in the context of Region 5 - Ecuador. METHOD. An exploratory factor analysis (AFE) and confirmatory factor analysis (AFC) were used to assess the validity of the construct. The scale was applied to (N = 245), teenage students. RESULTS. In the general results, acceptable indicators of reliability and validity of the scale were obtained (α = .73), applicable to the Ecuadorian context. Internal consistency was checked with the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin test for reliability. Internal consistency analysis was used with the Cronbach Alpha coefficient (α = .863), Bartlett's sphericity test was significant (p < .001), the scores obtained were positively correlated with various measures related to violent behavior such as impulsivity, aggressiveness in family and school interpersonal relationships. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS. It is concluded that the scale is applicable to the Ecuadorian context, it is expected that the use of it will facilitate other research related to the study variables within family and school behavior.
